Multicolored Tanager
Small, striking tanager with electric cerulean breast, black belly, green nape and wings, creamy back, golden face, and chestnut ear patch. Sexes similar; females/immatures duller. Uncommon in subtropical Andean forests of Colombia. Found in pairs, groups, or at fruit feeders.


Tolima Dove
Shy dove of central Colombian cloud forests, with reddish-purple neck and breast, gray crown, and pale eye, unlike the widespread White-tipped Dove. Usually hidden, but may appear in clearings or quiet roads at dawn. Voice is low, well-spaced coos.


Yellow-eared Parrot
Endangered parrot of Andean cloud forests, now mostly in Colombia, once reaching Ecuador. Large, thick-billed with yellow forehead, cheeks, underparts; tail red often hidden. Found in small flocks flying between fruiting trees, giving deep squawks. Nests in wax palms.


Buffy Helmetcrest
Large, short-billed hummingbird restricted to high elevations of Colombia’s central Andes. Males show green-blue beard, bold head pattern, and shaggy crest; females/immatures lack crest and are duller. Often feeds or perches on Espeletia (Frailejón) plants in páramo grasslands.
